Hyundai recently revamped its successful i20 range and added an all-new model adventurous folks might be interested in.
It’s called the Active and it will serve as the top-spec model in the range,
replacing the now defunct Sport.
We’re interested in the Active, because it’s a nice new competitor to the likes of
the Renault Sandero Stepway. It’s not a serious off-roader, but it offers some nice
additional features that make it a better companion on the day-to-day grind and
over weekends.
The Active has a different grille and fog lights, matt-black bumpers front and
rear, higher ground clearance and roof rails for carrying active gear, like bicycles
or roof boxes. It may not have low-range, but it will certainly cope better with
the Free State’s pothole infested roads if you plan on going down there for a
camping/cycling/hiking weekend.
On the inside it has a new seven-inch touch-screen display with all the usual
connectivity features, as well as seats with “Active” inlays. The infotainment
system can also be upgraded to include satnav at a very reasonable R2500.
A 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol producing 74kW and 133Nm of torque powers
the i20 Active. Hyundai claims it will only consume 6.7l/100km on the combined
cycle.
It retails for R279 900.
