It seems the Hyundai Santa Cruz bakkie has all but being confirmed for production and it seems like Kia is going to build its own version of it as well.
Rumours suggest that the Santa Cruz will be based on the all-new Tucson, which means it’s going to be smaller than we originally thought. It also means that it’ not going to be a hardcore off-roader, but more of a luxury offering with light off-road abilities.
The engines will likely be carried over from the Tucson, which includes a 1,6-litre turbocharged petrol four and a 140kW turbocharged diesel.
As for the Kia… Well, it’s basically the same car as the Tucson, which means it would be relatively easy to also design its own bakkie based on the Santa Cruz.
All of this is pure speculation at this point, but we see no reason why Hyundai and Kia shouldn’t enter the bakkie segment.
